Study Buddies Program!

Students

How it Works:

Study Buddies are a team, one person is a volunteer coach, and the other is someone in recovery who wants to improve his or her skills. Together they work on a subject that the coach can help with. Each team works at their own pace and at their own level for 10-12 weeks. Excellent for those working towards a GED!

Benefits:

1. Progress – improvement and more confidence in some subject that has held you back.

2. You ask questions and learn easier because it's just you and your coach.

3. By working together—even if you are doing math—you are helping each other with your recovery.

Subjects:

· Reading Progress

· Writing – for business, pleasure, or recovery

· Preparing Job Applications

· Math

· Social Studies

· Science

· Reading for self-improvement—for example, AA Literature, newspapers, magazines, self-help books

Tutors

How it Works:

Volunteers say what subjects they can help in. They are matched with someone who would like to improve their skills in one of those subjects. No teaching experience required. You are more like the coach of a 2-person team. Teams meet weekly at the time and place they choose. They work at their own pace for 10-12 weeks.

· Science

· Reading for self-improvement—for example AA Literature, newspapers, magazines, self-help books
